Vampires

I have always been fascinated by vampires, especially the evident eroticism that is so closely connected with the phenomenon; the intimacy between vampire and victim, the "kiss of death", the sensual nature of vampires and so on. I also find the nocturnal element intriquing; there is a certain feeling of magic and mystery connected with the night time, it is the realm of fantasies and desires that don't fit in at daytime where logic and rationalism rule the world.

My favourite vampire fiction is The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, but I have also enjoyed Le Fanu's Carmilla and Stoker's Dracula. It just seems, however, that although fantastic in form and setting Anne Rice manages to tell a tale of vampires more credible than her collegues in vampire fiction; she actually tries to explain the origins of the vampire phenomenon ( and to those interested in myths, religion and the occult not even a far fetched one). It does seem reasonable that a merely spiritual entity craves for the pleasures only known to those incarnated in the flesh. Wouldn't anyone try everything possible to gain access to such experiences if one was pure spirit but longing for carnal life ( I know I would! ).

Since this is not a vampire site I shall not elaborate on the subject here, but I have included some links to vampire sites that I hope you find useful.
